Leca® lightweight aggregate (LWA)

Leca® LWA is a lightweight aggregate used extensively as a lightweight fill for civil engineering and geotechnical applications. Through promotion and specification, our client base is continually finding further new and interesting uses for this special product. Leca® LWA is now being utilised as growing media in landscaping and roof gardens, safety stops on motor racing tracks, filtration media for chemical Biofilters and even acts as a carrier for ammonia dissipation on pig farms to name just a few.

Developed in Denmark in the 1930’s for the manufacture of a lightweight, insulating block, it was discovered some 20 years later in Scandinavia that when using Leca® LWA within road and rail infrastructure the lightweight, free draining and insulating properties of Leca® LWA are of great benefit in solving freeze / thaw problems usually associated with extreme cold weather conditions.

Now accepted for use by high profile clients such as the Highways Agency and Network Rail, Leca® LWA continues to grow it’s presence in the market.
